Clean, simple, and basic looks should be the cornerstone of every portfolio. Yet they are often overlooked, but trust me, clients love them.
I know this because I was the client working in-house at Spanx, and what we looked for in a portfolio were classic looks; a solid headshot/portrait, personality, and tasteful body with simple styling and lighting.
Portfolio building is all about getting photos to make a client stop and say “that’s the one we want”.
Formerly working in-house at an apparel company, I got to see the model selection process firsthand. Being a photographer and being on the client side, I have a unique insight into what clients actually look for in a portfolio.
It’s not big dramatic fashion poses, nor is it overly produced/retouched conceptual fashion, and it’s not dramatic lighting … it’s simple, clean and timeless photos that showcase YOU. Lifestyle photos that show your personality and movement, in-studio portraits with elegant but natural poses, and retouching that adds a nice level of polish to the finished image while still remaining natural.

Rates Start at:
$400. Two hours. Up to Four Looks. Twelve retouched photos.
50% retainer required to secure your shoot
Additional retouched photos can be purchased for $25 each
Styling
Wardrobe and/or wardrobe stylist is not included in rates. You can keep it simple and style it yourself or find a wardrobe stylist.
Styling pieces to bring:
Jeans
Simple white tanks and tees
White or denim button up
Denim jackets
Simple underwear (Think the Calvin Klein sets you see all the time)
Hair and Makeup
Hair and make is not included in rates. You will be responsible for doing your own hair and makeup or finding your own makeup artist.
Keep it light, simple and natural.
More than “no makeup” makeup, but less than a full glam look.
Please arrive hair/makeup ready to maximize your time while on set.
Please arrive on time, or a few minutes early. Your time starts at the scheduled start time, not when we start shooting, please do not be late
50% retainer is required to secure your shoot day
Retainer is nonrefundable
Gallery images are not to be shared or posted online, they are for making selects only
No filters or self retouching on final delivered photos (facetune, vsco, unfold etc.)
Dropbox gallery will be delivered within one week of shoot date
Retouched photos delivered within two weeks from when I receive your final selects
Photos are for portfolios and social media posting only, allowing brands or other feature/magazine accounts use or repost photos for commerce is not permitted
